Surgical cosmetic procedures by Dr. Ivey
Book ConsultationMale plastic surgery requires a special eye and a form of what I like to call surgical restraint in order not to feminize the face. Importantly it must still allow for an adequate result. Too many male surgical results show work that is overdone or underdone and getting it exactly right takes a special skill set.
In a female patient, some amount of exaggeration of brow or lip. For example, may beautify the face and is allowed under certain circumstances. In a male, this is never the case.
Most of the common examples of male celebrities who are known for “bad plastic surgery unfortunately had surgeons who failed to show this restraint and respect for the male aesthetic.
Dr. Ivey specializes in the male facial aesthetic. Strong and sculpted jaw lines and chins are the foundation of the male aesthetic.
While a chin augmentation or genioplasty is rarely needed in the female patient many males will benefit from a stronger chin. The eyes must be appropriately full, and the brow must stay appropriately low, but with adequate support. The skin will be treated, but not so much so that signs of surgery will be visible. In the case of lower lid surgery, the orbital fat (eye “bags”) must be treated and the fat appropriately manipulated without giving a full cheeky appearance.
In the case of Botox® or neurotoxin treatment for male patients, the goal is to allow for a more pleasant and less angry or tired appearance.
Soft tissue fillers, such as hyaluronic acid can sometimes be used to perform bony augmentation in such locations, as chin and occasionally midface.
Skin treatments for men are more or less the same as for women and work to build collagen and decrease brown and red spots with modalities such as IPL and micro needling along with medical grade skin care.
