Surgical cosmetic procedures by Dr. Ivey
Book ConsultationA mommy makeover is combining two or more of the following procedures: Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, Tummy Tuck, Liposuction, Labiaplasty, and Vaginoplasty.
Pregnancy plus or minus breastfeeding, and caring for our dear children in their early years definitely puts a physical strain on the female form. It only takes one pregnancy to completely change your body.
The amount of damage done to a female's body with pregnancy and nursing is highly related to genetics, the age that one gives birth, and a bit of luck. Some women are lucky that their breast or abdomen was left unaffected after pregnancy. Others aren’t sure what can be done and didn't even know it was possible to surgically repair and reconstruct the labia and vagina.
These changes cannot be corrected completely with exercise alone for many women. That is why Dr. Ivey specializes in giving women back what is hopefully an even better body than they had pre-pregnancy.
After bariatric surgery or weight loss many patients are left with redundant skin. This can be problematic and requires excision and “tailoring” of skin. Dr. Ivey has significant experience with massive weight loss patients. Some examples of body contouring procedures would be brachioplasty (arm lift), thigh lift, upper back lift, lower body lift, panniculectomy, and butt lift. One of Dr. Ivey’s most transformative procedures for patients after weight loss is the corset abdominoplasty.
Body contouring patients visit Dr. Ivey’s clinic from all of the Hawaiian Islands including Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island.
Liposuction is an excellent way to contour the face and body with minimal downtime. Through small (3-5mm) incisions in the skin, suction cannulas can be introduced and excess fat can be removed. This is a very artistic process and can be likened to sculpting the body. Liposuction can be performed in the neck, arms, back, waist and abdomen, flanks and bra line areas, and thighs. Smaller areas can be performed in the office under local anesthesia alone. High definition liposuction refers to defining a patients natural anatomy further using liposuction.
Dr. Ivey’s significant experience with liposuction brings men and women from all of the Hawaiian Islands including Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island.
Occasionally we have too much fat in certain areas and not enough in the other. By combining liposuction along with fat transfer Dr. Ivey can remedy these areas and give you the shape you desire.
A Brazilian butt lift or BBL refers to transferring your own fat to the buttocks and hips. This is done by first performing liposuction to the abdomen, back, and flanks to decrease the waist-to-hip ratio. Patient preferences determine the amount of fat transferred to each area. Dr. Ivey does not perform large volume injection. His approach is to reduce the fat in the areas mentioned and transfer appropriate amounts of fat in a safe, subcutaneous manner to the areas that are lacking. This leads to a very natural and attractive result. He refined his BBL skills during his time on Miami and now patients from all of the Hawaiian Islands including Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island can benefit.
Another possibility of buttock augmentation is using your own tissue - called “auto-augmentation” - during a lower body lift. In this procedure the redundant tissue on the lower back is not wasted but instead is mobilized to the upper buttock to provide more volume.
Redundant or asymmetrical labia minora and/or clitoral hood are most commonly congenital and typically get worse during adolescence. Occasionally enlargement can result from hormone or birth control treatment, pregnancy, or aging. This can cause women to avoid intimacy or feel less confident. It can also cause pain while wearing certain clothing. The surgical treatments of this area include reduction and reshaping. Vaginal rejuvenation is typically indicated after childbirth as there can be anatomical damage that occurs during vaginal delivery. This can cause muscle separation at the perineum. During the surgery, the muscles of the perineum are brought back to their natural location.
Yes, in many cases the two procedures can be done together. If the complexity and time taken for both surgeries is within a safe range for time under anesthesia they will be performed together.
Insurance does not cover rectus diastasis repair under any circumstances. It is a cosmetic procedure - even though there are functional benefits including relief of back pain and potential improvement in urinary incontenence.
You will gain weight in all of the areas you typically would gain weight after liposuction. However, since there are less fat cells present in the liposuction areas you will not gain as much weight in these “trouble spots”.
Dr. Ivey will determine the most appropriate technique for you during your consultation. In fit patients his signature “Colombian Clover” belly button will give the most undetectable result possible. This technique is typically done in patients with BMI 24 or less.In patients with more abdominal thickness this technique is not advisable so he uses another method to get a beautiful result.
It is possible that your result may be better after you lose a few pounds. Exercise, diet, and semaglutide / tirzepatide injections can be appropriate methods for our patients.
Dr. Ivey will not perform tummy tuck in patients over BMI 35. Dr. Ivey preferes BMI less than 30 for the ideal result. If the tummy tuck is performed at over BMI of 30 there is a higher chance that revision liposuction, skin excision, could be needed for ideal result.Weight management program is available at Ivey Plastic Surgery.
Semaglutide and tirzepatide (Ozempic and Mounjaro) may be appropriate to optimize the patient prior to surgery.
3 weeks pre-op and do not resume for 3 weeks after surgery.
